Positioned between PSTN and IP networks, this trunk gateway supports various voice codec conversions and softswitch integration while serving as a key component of next-generation packet-based networks. SMEC's Trunk Gateway interfaces with PSTN networks through E1/T1 and STM-1-class trunk interfaces supporting up to 16,000 channels. Under the control of a softswitch, it performs media conversion and switching for a range of IP subscribers on IP networks via Gigabit Ethernet interfaces.
