R&D Center
Building on the strong technological expertise developed since 1989,
when SMEC was the Machine Tools Division of Samsung Heavy Industries,
SMEC's R&D Center serves as a key research hub driving continuous innovation and shaping the company's vision for the future.
With machine tools, automation, and AI (artificial intelligence)
as its three core research areas, the center is dedicated to developing next-generation products.
The R&D Center conducts comprehensive convergence research encompassing both hardware and software.
It develops dedicated machine tool software—such as OneX line monitoring, SPTT machining program input/output,
and SAV applications—alongside advanced technologies and inspection solutions for used EV batteries.
It is also enhancing automation technologies, including robotic applications, LAM-series HMIs, and AWC control,
while actively pursuing cutting-edge AI and IIoT research, such as a machine tool-specific AI chatbot (SMALA), physical AI, and an in-house AI platform (MAF).
Located in Gwangmyeong, Gyeonggi-do, the R&D Center is leading the next generation of manufacturing through continuous investment in advanced technologies.
By further advancing autonomous manufacturing technologies and researching AI-based smart factory solutions,
it aims to secure an unrivaled technological advantage in the global manufacturing and automation industries.
